US Army selects DragonFly and FireFly self-guided parachutes

Santa Ana,CA - 1 January, 2008

A multi-million dollar contact has been won by South Wales-based, Airborne Systems. The company's 10K DragonFly and 2K FireFly parachute systems have been selected as the 10,000 Ib and 2,000 Ib Joint Precision Aerial Delivery System (JPADS) platforms by the US Army. The systems were designed at Airborne Systems' New Jersey facility and form part of a family of JPADs systems. They utilise GPS signals to "steer" air dropped supplies to troops in remote or dangerous areas, minimizing risk to the aircraft and eliminating the need to put troops in harm's way. Manufacture will start immediately, with deliveries due in early 2008.
