AIRBORNE SYSTEMS AND HDT GLOBAL DEMONSTRATE THEIR CAPABILITIES TO INTERNATIONAL MILITARY CUSTOMERS

Eloy, Arizona - 1 March, 2011

CATEGORY: Event

Airborne Systems, a world leader in the design, development and manufacture of military parachute and aerial delivery systems and its parent company HDT Global co-hosted over 140 paratroopers and military members from 20 allied nations at Airborne Days III in Eloy, Arizona at the end of February 2011. Participants experienced first-hand the latest technology in precision cargo delivery, airborne assault and military free-fall parachute insertions as well as rescue, safety and survival equipment.

Designers and engineers from Airborne Systems and HDT conducted full-scale product demonstrations and were on hand to provide training and answer questions from attendees trialing and assessing the parachute systems. Equipment selected for jumping by the attendees included the new T-11 non-steerable troop parachute system developed for the US Army to reduce landing injuries, the MC-6 steerable troop parachute system and a range of high performance ram air parachute systems used by Special Forces such as the Raider Intruder™, AS33-Intruder and Hi Glide. Unmanned cargo delivery systems were demonstrated including the low-cost Unicross and three of Airborne Systems family of GPADS: FireFly™, MicroFly™ and the new lower-cost, one-time use parachute, the 2K1T.

The base of operations for the event was Airborne Systems Training Facility located at Eloy Municipal Airport. On the 1500 square-foot padded packing mat inside the large training facility, several trained riggers continually packed parachutes.  Meanwhile, attendees queued up for their next jump, donning gear and receiving individual briefings in preparation for boarding the aircraft.  The event site was complemented by a 2,550 square-foot mobile field shelter system, manufactured by HDT Global consisting of four inter-connected, double-walled shelters with environmental control units, and power generators. Features such as Ready-Fold flooring with conduits for cabling, plenums throughout for air handling, pre-wired electrical cables, and particularly the portable interactive visual display systems (I-VDS) demonstrated why these versatile shelters are commonly used as command and control centers and for humanitarian aid operations. At Airborne Days III, they  facilitated IT operations, video re-transmission of the jumps, static briefings and canteen duty.

Attendees came to jump and to learn about new technology, benefiting from the opportunity to share the experience with international counterparts. Elizabeth Johnson, Airborne Systems Senior Vice-President Customer Business Team, North America explained “Some companies modify equipment for the military, but we design our systems specifically for military use. Events like this one enable us to demonstrate and inform the military community of our advanced solutions in personnel and cargo aerial delivery and receive essential feedback which better enables us to anticipate the needs of our customers and continue to develop systems for the future.”
