AIRBORNE SYSTEMS ACCOMPLISHES SIGNIFICANT MILESTONE:
PRODUCTION OF 10,000TH T-11 PARACHUTE FOR U.S. ARMY
PENNSAUKEN, NJ – Feb. 3, 2011 - Airborne Systems, a leader in the U.S. military parachute marketplace, announces the production of its 10,000th T-11 parachute for the U.S. Army at the company’s Santa Ana facility. Airborne Systems, one of the 3 manufacturers of America’s next generation, non-steerable troop parachutes, delivers the largest number of parachutes well ahead of schedule.
“In collaboration with the U.S. Army, our engineers have developed a unique and innovative design, resulting in a much safer assault troop parachute,” said JC Berland, Chief Technology Officer for Airborne Systems Group. “The T-11 is more reliable, capable, stable and effective at meeting the needs of the modern soldier on today’s battlefields.”
Replacing the legacy T-10 , used by the U.S. military for more than 50 years, the new design is a significant leap for defense technology. The all-new T-11 carries a total weight of up to 400 lbs. and significantly improves overall performance, but most significantly reduces injuries on landing by over 70 percent, helping to protect the American war-fighter.
“This is an advancement for both Airborne Systems and the U.S. military,” said Carlos A. Lopez, Vice President and General Manager at Airborne Systems Santa Ana. “Replacing the legacy T-10 with the groundbreaking T-11 is part of a five-year contract to integrate the parachute, and we’re proud to do our part in supporting the U.S. Army.”
The T-11 parachute program employs thousands of American workers. Airborne Systems employs more than 300 workers at the Santa Ana manufacturing facility and thousands more are employed by subcontractors and suppliers in Tennessee, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Florida, Connecticut, Georgia, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Alabama and Virginia.
